Problem
Many organizations struggle with poorly documented services. Users often don’t know what a service includes, who owns it, or how to access guidance. This lack of clarity leads to repeated support requests, frustrated users, and inconsistent service delivery.
By linking Business Service Offerings directly to Knowledge articles, this blueprint ensures that every offering has an accessible, structured description that users can consult in the Knowledge Base.
What the Blueprint Includes
Often, simple is beautiful. This blueprint only includes two entities:
- Business Service Offering – Represents the actual service made available to the business, classified as a Business Service.
- Knowledge – Active knowledge articles that describe or support the Business Service Offering.

Considerations
- Service clarity: Ensure each Business Service Offering has a meaningful description and is correctly classified as a Business Service.
- Knowledge governance: Regularly review linked Knowledge articles to keep them current and relevant. This blueprint expects the articles to be updated every 6 months.
- Data Provider: Check and configure data providers when publishing this blueprint. Who should maintain or link the service to knowledge articles.
- Knowledge categories and types can be used to set more specific requirements. For example, every service must have an article from the "Service Descriptions" category.
- You can apply the same concept to any other CI classes as well, or include this knowledge in a blueprint that already describes the requirements for service offerings.
Benefits
- 📖 Improved self-service – Users can find information easily in the Knowledge Base, reducing tickets and escalations.
- 🏷 Consistent service catalog – Clear descriptions and classifications ensure that services are transparent and comparable.
- 🔄 Better lifecycle management – Business Service Offerings remain accurate and aligned with CSDM standards.
- 🚀 Faster onboarding – New employees can quickly understand the services available to them.
