Problem
Many CMDBs contain Business Applications without clear ownership, support accountability, or links to the services they rely on. This leads to fragmented service mapping, weak governance, and challenges in demonstrating business-critical dependencies. The Walk blueprint solves this by linking Business Applications to users, groups, application services, lifecycle components, and technical service offerings.
What the Blueprint Includes
The blueprint defines the following entities:
- Business Application – Root entity representing a business-facing application.
- User – Individuals in ownership roles (Business Owner, IT Application Owner).
- Group – Support and management groups.
- Application Service – Service instances consumed or contained by the Business Application.
- SDLC Component – Lifecycle components that form part of the application stack.
- Technical Service Offering – New at Walk, representing the service delivery layer linked through Application Services.

Considerations
- Ensure correct assignment of Business Owner and IT Application Owner roles for governance.
- Update Group references to match your operational support model.
- The Application Service (cmdb_ci_service_auto) class is central to this model.
- Technical Service Offerings add a delivery dimension – make sure offerings are aligned with catalog and service portfolio data.
- SDLC Components require the CMDB CI Class Models plugin.
- This blueprint uses an Alternative Link Group: Business Applications must link to Application Services either directly or via SDLC Components.
Benefits
- Governance & Accountability – Every Business Application has clear ownership and group responsibility.
- Service Context – Links to Application Services and Technical Service Offerings connect applications to real service delivery.
- Lifecycle Awareness – Incorporates SDLC Components for a more complete application model.
- Business Relevance – Provides a reliable foundation for criticality, compliance, and service reporting.
